New look!

30 August 2010

I just felt like updating the site. What’s funny is that the thing that prompted me to change the site was actually something different altogether, and I still haven’t changed that. Oh well. No biggie. I can deal with it for now. (For the geeks wondering, custom menus aren’t supported by this theme.)

On a side note, for the 5th anniversary of that b!ยฃยข4 Katrina, I posted a selection of photos. “Enjoy.”

I’ll be posting some better photos later. But these won’t be of Katrina. They will just be a bunch of my favorite photos over the years. And when I say, “over the years,” I mean, over the past 7 years or so that I’ve had a digital camera. I’m not going back into the archives and scanning any physical pictures…

Thank you, MTV, for renewing my faith in humanity…

26 August 2010

…or at least for not making ALL THOSE HOURS I spent watching Real World – New Orleans: Redux a waste.

You see, it all started a few months back when Eric Orlando told me that the Real World would be filming at the open mic comedy night at Carrollton Station that week. Even though he “wasn’t supposed to tell,” because, then, the Real World would be less real. Ahem.ย  I figured I was at the Cowboy Mouth show that the Real World – New Orleans – The Original did back in 2001, and was part of the Jenny Says video filming that Kelly from that cast was in, so why not make a RWNO:Reloaded appearance as well. So Rose and I went. It was fun watching the technical aspect (I never did go mingle and try to get my 15 milliseconds of fame), and making fun of Cullen’s “made-for-tv happiness.”ย  Well apparently they went like 8 more times to film there. Including an open mic music night.

I don’t pay attention to MTV (except for occasionally watching Rob Dyrdek’s Fantasy Factory), so I had no idea when this stuff was gonna air. One day when I was watching “The Soup,” they had a clip from RWNO:Pig in the City (and, every week there’s been a Soup, there’s been a RWNO:First Blood Part II clip). Woohoo! Finally time to see Carrollton Station on MTV. Well, there I was, yesterday, contemplating coming on here and complaining that I’m watching all this crap just to see CS, and we’re like 5 or 6 weeks in, and STILL no station. Then, when I tune in to my DVR last night (4 things that I watch come on b/t 9-10pm on Wednesday…why the face) to RWNO:Meet the Fockers, there it is! Both the comedy night and the singing night in the same episode. Of course, I guess now I’ll still tune in to RWNO:Their First Assignment until it’s over. I mean, I’ve invested this much time in it already, what’s a few more hours? ๐Ÿ˜› Oh yeah. if you want to check out those 5 or so minutes so you don’t have to waste your entire summer watching the whole thing just to see Carrollton Station, click the link. You’re welcome. RWNO:Attack of the Clones.

While I’m pimping videos, here are a couple more I’ve uploaded lately. View them before youtube copywright nazi’s tell you you can’t!

Fred Leblanc on WWL morning news July 8, 2010

Ken Jeong at the Spike Guy’s Choice Awards (with Hangover montage removed just to be safe)

Ken Jeong at the Teen Choice Awards as his character from Vampires Suck presenting presenters (sorry the audio’s a little out of sync on that, will fix that later)

By the way, Ken’s new site is finally up. He hasn’t had much time to do much with it yet, but stay tuned!

Also, SaintsForSinners new site will be up before you know it. (The old site is still up right now.) But when it premieres, Rob has some AWESOME new medals that you should check out. I’d post my favorite one here, b/c it’s so awesome, but I want its debut to be at home. So I’ll put it up after the new site goes live. Which should be in the next week or so!

One more pimping. I tried making an xtranormal video. I say try not b/c of the technical aspect of it, but b/c I’m not a script writer. But, just since I went to all that trouble, here it is.

And finally, as you can see on that countdown over there –>, Rose will be here this weekend. It’s about time! ๐Ÿ˜€

Balance

10 August 2010

I’ve got some rants and raves. But I’m gonna try to balance them out with positives. Wish me luck. The rants and raves just come so easily.

It took me a while to find out what these things are. At first I thought it was some kind of action figure tasing device. Or maybe Robert “One-String” Gibson‘s musical instrument. But what I found out was that they’re some kind of new-fangled tooth-cleaning apparatuses (apparati?). A fancy-man’s toothpick, one might say. Which only makes me more disgusted. Because they are ALL OVER THE PLACE. Seriously, people. Can’t you take your disgusting personal hygiene products and dispose of them properly?!

This is what goes on in the lost and found of the church. Apparently this medieval knight was too much for both Superman and the zebra power ranger to handle. But, like a true chivalrous gentleman, he at least called the ambulance to pick them up. I hear Medieval Times has an opening… I’m not sure about the zebraranger though…there seems to be a lot of blood pouring from his body. Jesus looks on in the distance. And, in case he has trouble seeing as he’s looking on, there are about 40 pairs of glasses and sunglasses on another shelf (not pictured).

These are cables. We had some work done on the church a couple of weeks ago, and I believe these were involved in lifting the platform up that they used to do the work from. Apparently these cables were also “dragged across the roof, causing huge holes that when it rained the other day, allowed rain to get in” to the inner-ceiling, which left “huge water stain marks” on it. These “huge water stain marks” are also known as shadows, caused by light shining on something and casting a darkness. But, although it doesn’t apply here, I’ll give you this tip. If you ever want to open holes in your roof for purposes of irrigation, just drag cables similar to these across it. That will be cheap and solve all your problems. Trust me, it works. Or at least I’ve been told. And I believe it, because of who told me. It was the same person who told me furniture polish is wax (the same furniture polish whose commercials say “does not contain wax”), and that using it on pews will make people slip and fall and get wax all over their clothes. Even if that were true, though, the pews were roped off, so it shouldn’t be an issue. Oh wait, you took the ropes off the pews, genius? Thanks for being helpful. Next time, at least wait til it’s dry.

This is what I got to witness yesterday. The picture tells 90% of the story. The rest goes like this. That used to be a loading zone in front of the church. For some reason, it’s not anymore, even though they only took down one of the two signs that stated it was a loading zone. So, the employee who owns the silver car (see diagram) has been parking there every day, instead of in the lot that is only for employees (and special guests, but I won’t go there), so that he doesn’t get blocked in. I also won’t go into how I feel about someone taking up a public spot that has a perfectly good private spot…wait, that sounds dirty…but you know what i mean. On this particular day, “employee” was trying to help a random person squeeze their chevy blazer into that spot. What you don’t see is that there was a perfectly larger spot, which would’ve fit the blazer, and then some, behind the truck that the blazer is trying to squeeze in front of. Why not park there? I have no idea. What you also don’t see is that in the process of squeezing in, blazer “love-tapped” the car behind it no fewer than 3 times, and I think the car in front of it once. Well, “love-tap” may be accurate for the car in front, but I think a more appropriate phrase for the car behind it is probably “dry-humped.”

Ah, finally, it’s time for the balance. I was listening to our rehearsal party the other day, and every time I listen to it, I think, how awesome is it that we have all these talented friends that love us enough to come out and perform for us?! And not just at the rehearsal party, but at the reception as well. And these aren’t your average joe schmoe’s with a guitar playing on the corner of Royal and something-street. Nono, these are highly seasoned veterans! And they’re here for US! Makes me feel all warm and gooey inside. Feel free to check out an older post I had to download the rehearsal show. I’ll put up the reception stuff after I watch it at the end of the month. Also, feel free to go to Robin Walker Photography and hire her and buy her stuff, or at least go get a drink from her at Banks Street Bar on Saturday nights.

Finally, how awesome is this?! Granted, I didn’t make it to the parade, but I did get some beads from it, and saw Cowboy Mouth play for the first time since Jazz Fest. A whole show for the first time since February. Yeah, I know! I didn’t get the game, since I barely play the 2009 one I have, but I just may have to get this one when the price drops. Just because it’ll finally be a NFL video game where the Saints don’t absolutely suck. Yeah, take that, Tecmo Bowl! :-รž

Alright! Let’s get ready for Wednesday!

Transportation and Racist Laundry

30 July 2010

Ladies and gentlemen, may I introduce my, to steal a partial phrase from beatinpath, “brand new old” car. After looking at several cars, this is the one I went with. Sure it’s a year older than mine was (it’s a 2004), and had the most miles of the ones I looked at (95k), it was the one I liked the most. One owner, who obviously took good care of it, all leather, sunroof, jbl sound system, very clean w only a few knicks. Here’s to hoping it lasts many more years. I’m not really one to name cars,…well I kinda name them but never call em by name….but I’ll be takin suggestions for this one. Caravan was The Hooptie, stratus was Figment (it was a dark purply eggplanty amethyst color), camry1 was Blue (it was light blue…you’re my boy, Blue!). So camry2…hm. let’s see what name it falls into.

On another note, why do I have so many rogue socks??? I have FIVE pairs of unmatched socks. All black. I think I have a racist laundry gnome living in my washer or dryer.

Btw, go see Star and Micey at the Neutral Ground at 11:00 tonight. And go see Leo deJesus at the Allways Lounge before that at 10.

What an amazing week!

23 July 2010

So it starts off on Saturday night/Sunday morning on the way home from Carrollton Station when my car slipped on something, fishtailed, slammed itself on the right side of the on-ramp, then the left. And no, I wasn’t speeding, nor was I drunk (I passed the “follow the pen with your eyes and only your eyes” test!), and I wasn’t texting, or playing with the ipod, or anything else. So who knows why the face. Long story short, I got it towed back to the collision center 2 blocks from home and dealt with it on Monday. The cops couldn’t give me a ticket for speeding, nor for being drunk, but they HAD to give me one for something (??), so it was “Reasonable Vigilance.” Yeah, buddy, here’s a ticket for being Reasonably Vigilant. Nah, I guess it means I should’ve been more reasonably vigilant. ๐Ÿ˜› Anyway, I’m physically fine, thank God. I’m sad about my car though. The guy at the shop told me on Monday that once it gets past 75% of the car’s value to fix it, that they total it. I didn’t get my hopes up about it being fixed, really, b/c I didn’t want to be disappointed. I got the call on Wednesday from State Farm. As soon as I saw the caller i.d., I knew what they were going to say. What I didn’t expect was that they were gonna give me a total of $11,2xx for the NADA value of the car plus TTL, minus my $250 deductible, minus the $350 final payment (!!), for a total of $10,646.xx. So now I’m looking for a car that that can completely pay for. I’ve narrowed it down to a few, but haven’t decided yet. I have the rental car til Wednesday, so I’m hoping to make this work out where I don’t have any payments to make, and even have some money left over.

So then I get sickish on Wednesday night. Throat and nose and chills and all that. I sleep with Nyquil and feel betterish on Thursday, but rest most of the day, and sleep for about 2 hours in the middle of the day. Thursday night I head out to see beatinpath play at Chickie Wah Wah. I go to leave, even before they’re done cuz I’m tired and not wanting to relapse, and…..my car is gone. So first I panic and think it was stolen. Great. It’s a rental. Then I see tiny “24 hour towing” signs on the dark wall on the other side of the parking lot of the CLOSED chiropractic clinic that I was parked in. And yes, I realize that’s a dangling something-or-other and that I wasn’t actually parked in the clinic but in the parking lot, but I’m leaving it like that. Anywho, I call and sure enough it was towed. So was someone else who was at the show. Because, apparently, neither of us saw those signs. Still pissed, but glad it’s not stolen, I wait for my parents (who I told not to come pick me up but did anyway, THANKS!), end up talking to the guy again, and he says since I was nice, and not rude like the other people who were towed, who i didn’t know but met b/c they were out there screaming and cursing, that he would give me a tip, that it’s better to get it in the morning than overnight. But I ain’t one to gossip, so you ain’t heard it from me.

I go pick up the car this morning, and there’s a note on the counter that says so-and-so productions is filming in the area for “Untitled New Orleans Project” and that by entering the premises you are consenting to being filmed,ย  blah blah. So as I’m paying, this guy with a video camera comes up and starts asking me questions. Where were you parked, what was going on, blah blah.ย  Greeeeaaaaaaat.

The guy working at the towing company tells me that the owner (of chickie) “won’t pay the owner of the chiropractic clinic to use the lot,” and “is usually out there telling people not to park there.” I said of course, this is the first time I’ve been there where he wasn’t there until later. I also said that they need more signs in that lot b/c you can’t see the ones on the dark wall, and there are none at all on the side that I parked on. He didn’t comment on that. Of course he didn’t. Because if you can easily see the signs, that cuts down on their business. But I digress. I mean, I understand that parking can be premium down there. And I understand that maybe the “contract” that you enter with these towing companies don’t have options like “only b/t the hours of.” Well, actually, I have trouble believing that, but I’m sure it’s a possibility. But seriously, Hardy Chiropractic, at 2912 Canal Street, which I will never ever patronize, even if I did feel comfortable going to chiropractors, why do you have to be such Cod Shoe Nuzzles? (Feed the singular into an anagram creator and figure out which one I meant. Here’s a hint. It’s the second one. :P)

But at least it’s Friday!

Rehearsal Party Download

9 July 2010

I’m finally finished mixing the music portion of our rehearsal party. Feel free to download them below. Our web hosting has a limit of 300gb of transfer per month, so I’ll be watching the stats to make sure we don’t go over. If we have a ton of people downloading these (haha), I may have to cut it off until the month rolls over. I broke it up into each set. All total, it’s about 224mb of mp3 goodness. 192kbps mp3 goodness, cuz that’s as low as i’ll go with lossy files. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Please thank these guys by going to their websites and their shows, and buying their music! You can get to all of them from our links page.

Oh yeah. They’re all zip files. Right-click and Save As…usually works best. ๐Ÿ™‚

So now, without further ado….
