For those of you who don’t know, I packed up the moving van on July 30 and 31 and headed to Gainesville on the night of the 31st. I took all of our newish appliances, plus Rose’s freezer and refrigerator, along with most of the big furniture from my condo, and some boxes of stuff. Half of this trip was to get all of that installed, since Rose didn’t have a working fridge, and the other half was to sit there while they installed our laminate floors for 2-3 days.
I left nola at 9:22 sunday night. after 3 naps at aptly named “rest stops,” i pulled into our driveway around 10am. brought daisy in to see samantha and the cats. samantha was happy to see us. daisy seemed a little confused, but also excited. i then spent some time unloading the truck into the garage. i unloaded the fridge and stove into their appropriate places. rose got off work around 9pm. we went to eat and passed out when we got home. i have the truck til wednesday morning.
tuesday i slept. most of the day. i actually woke up in the morning to bring rose to work, then came home and did some remote computer stuff using my phone tethered to my computer to work on the draftfreak sites and the saints for sinners site and to do something remotely at st. pat’s. then i slept til like 3. got the old dishwasher disconnected and into the garage, and got the new one in, but not connected, cuz it leaked and needed something new. rose realized she’s gonna have a surgery around 8:30 so i pick up DQ around 7 and go eat there. then i run in the torrential downpour right before she goes to surgery to get to lowe’s in time to see about getting something to fix the dishwasher leak. they pointed me in a direction, i bought it, and went back to sleep in the car at the vet school until rose was done around midnight. we go home, unload the stuff we need 2 people to unload, bring the truck back, and go home. around 2 or 3 am.
wednesday. yay, time to get our floors! guy shows up at 9am. i work on getting the dishwasher in, succeed. install guy points out something about the floor. long story short, it’s faulty, would void 25yr warranty if we installed it anyway, they tell him to pull it up and bring it back. there’s nothing in stock that we like, so they’re going to order it, it should be in some time next week, and they’ll make sure it gets here as soon as it gets there and they schedule the install as soon as possible, because we need to get rose actually moved in and not living out of boxes. we went to home depot that night to see if there’s anything in stock they can get to us right away, even if they have to upgrade us (for free, to console us for our time and delays). there was nothing in stock that we liked.
here is what our floor is supposed to look like:
here is what it actually looks like, with the red underlayment still down. excuse the mess.
but at least the fridge, stove, and dishwasher are in and hooked up, and our bed from my room is up, and i removed all the tack strips.
friday i brought all our excess trash to a dump site, since she has been here a month and only got trash cans the week before, and they only pick up trash that is in the can. there’s this big corner of our garage taken up with trash, so i got rid of that crap.
saturday we went to st. augustine beach.
alcohol? check. glass? check. two things you’re not supposed to have on the beach? check.
sunday we went to mass, rented a car for me to drive back home with the carpet in (a chevy traverse, go figure), went and picked up a dryer we found on craigslist, pretty much new, for less than half of what it originally cost. got the dryer in, put a lot of carpet in the truck, had lunch, and sadly, left. but happily knowing that i’d be back in like a week. 🙂
